Supporting San Jose Parks, Trails, and Recreation Programs
We began 2014 with a very special announcement. San Jose Parks Foundation partnered with the San Jose Sharks and a handful of parents and kids from the Pueblo de Dios neighborhood to buiild a much-needed KaBOOM! Playground.
KaBOOM is a national nonprofit organization that specializes in building playgrounds in communities and neighborhoods that need them and might otherwise be unable to build one. KaBOOM! finds a corporate sponsor - in this case the San Jose Sharks - to pay most of the expenses of buidling a playground.
KaBOOM! works with a community group, like the Ken Pyle-led Pueblo de Dios group and a nonprofit organization (San Jose Parks Foundation) to raise the remaining funds and to recruit voluntteers to do the build.
KaBOOM! has helped build more than 2,400 playgrounds across North America, several of which are in the South Bay. The build day will be March 7, 2014 and we will need about 100 volunteers to build the park in six hours.
